Outside of Anglovaal, Brian built and oversaw two commercial diamond mining operations in Angola and Sierra Leone and has been a principal of various diamond trading joint ventures across Africa. Brian has also held an interest and continues to serve as a Director and Chairman of Shore Gold Inc., one of Canada’s biggest diamond exploration companies.

The Brian Menell and The Kemet Group’s present projects and interests, include: Tin and Tungsten in the Great Lakes Region, bauxite in West Africa, oil field developments and exploration in West and Central Africa and diamond exploration in Canada, gold in East Africa and the CIS, as well as a diamond procurement advisory business, and the Constantia Wine making Joint Venture.

Through the Kemet Group, of which Brian is the CEO, he has interests in a wide portfolio of private interests. The Group is involved in forestry, a range of Agricultural and Agri­industry projects, and fertilizer feedstocks, as well as early stage tech, London real estate and banking.

Brian has extensive experience in the development of a wide range of energy and natural resources projects across seventeen African countries, including: South Africa, Mozambique, Angola, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Rwanda and Gabon.

He presently serves as the Chairman and CEO of TechMet Ltd., a Director of Kemet Global Ltd., TINCO Investments Ltd., Sallfort Partners AG and Glendirk Estate (Pty) Ltd.

In 2017 Brian founded and continues to serve as Chariman and CEO of TechMet Ltd, an investment vehicle for a portfolio of technology metal projects. TechMet acquires and manages projects that produce, process and recycle the key strategic technology metals that go into batteries, electric vehicles and robotics – cobolt, lithium, nickel, tin, tungsten, rare earth metals, vanadium and graphite.

Wine Farming

Through Glendirk Estate (Pty) Ltd. the Menell family participates in a 50/50 joint venture with Klein Constantia for the farming and production of approximately 10,000 cases per year of Constantia wines. All wines are bottled and sold under the  Klein Constantia label. The  Klein Constantia Sauvignon Blanc is the primary product of the joint venture.

A1 Grand Prix

In 2004, Brian Menell was involved in the initial set up of the A1 Grand Prix auto racing series, which was billed as “the world cup of sports”. He discontinued all direct involvement with A1 Grand Prix in 2007.
